York Catholic Teachers Collective Agreement

On October 6, CUPE and the province announced the signing of a new collective agreement. This interim agreement is currently being ratified by CUPE members. The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) reached a preliminary agreement with the provincial government and the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association (OCSTA) on March 12, 2020. If no preliminary agreement can be reached in advance, a one-day strike will take place on Thursday, March 5: Today, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) announced that no interim agreement has been reached with the province and that a lawsuit against the work will begin on Monday, January 13, 2020. We understand that a work stoppage can be troubling for students, parents and school communities, and we ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed throughout the process. As a Catholic school board, the YCDSB respects collective bargaining and hopes that a freely negotiated agreement will be reached soon. The York Catholic District School Board is very pleased to learn that the provincial and CUPE bargaining teams have negotiated a new collective agreement. Therefore, CUPE will NOT strike tomorrow, Monday, October 7, 2019. Meet the staffing needs of the university workforce by providing services including, but not limited to, recruitment, onboarding, staffing, collective bargaining management, and professional learning and support. The York Catholic District School Board is very pleased to learn that the Ministry of Education and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers` Federation (OSSTF) have reached an interim agreement at the provincial level. Ratification votes with OSSTF members are tentatively scheduled for May.

OECTA and provincial representatives are currently seated at the negotiating table. If no provisional agreement can be reached today, a one-day strike will take place tomorrow, Friday 21 February: YCDSB secondary school teachers are not members of the OSSTF, they are members of the OECTA with the primary school teachers of the council. On 8 April 2020, OECTA announced that its members had ratified the agreement on the main terms of a new treaty. Please note that teachers show up for work during this work as a rule and all YCDSB schools are open. As a result of provincial negotiations, CUPE YCDSB has announced that its members will be in a legal strike position as of Monday, September 30, 2019. If no agreement is reached at the provincial level by September 30, CUPE members will take legal action on September 30 in the form of work to regulate sanctions. CUPE 1571 said it will hold a ratification vote for its members on November 23, 2019.
